HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Wednesday, March 18, 2009) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) is ready to kick off its first West Coast event of the year with the ASP WQS 2-Star Vans Pier Classic presented by Jack’s Surfboards which will be held at South Huntington Beach Pier from March 25-29, 2009. Running in conjunction with the event will be the ASP Grade-2 Ezekiel Pro Junior, also presented by Jack’s Surfboards.

The ASP WQS allows the top 15 seeds at year’s end to advance to the coveted ASP World Tour, where they earn the chance to battle the top 45 competitive surfers for the ASP World Title. The ASP North America Pro Junior Series acts as a qualifier for the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships held in Narrabeen, Australia in January of each year. The event crowns the ASP World Junior Champion.
